PROGRAMMING NOTE from the Author and Archivist

So obviously I just stopped blogging on this platform. I'll get back to it eventually. Or not. I'm taking a break from all social media. It seemed necessary for my mental health.

The last few years have been busy and … challenging:

- 2015 Happened.
- 2016 Let's call it The Lost Year. (Obviously words failed me.)
- 2017 about broke me. Literally. Mentally.
- 2018 was ridiculous, proving 2017 was just a warm up. (Good thing I was already broken so it couldn't hurt as much.#2018TrashCanFire I thought things were going okay, but maybe not?)

- 2019 was such a blur. I know there were highlights, but then stuff happened and carried into the next year...

- And then in March#2020 really took a turn. Who can even categorize 2020? Do we dare?

I kinda want a do-over of some of the last few years. But life doesn’t work that way.

So for now, I'm hunkering down. Regrouping. Trying to stay safe and sort some stuff out.

Stay safe everyone. Stay well.

Recipes from Ollie J -- Shoe Formula

I had such fun last year with all the recipes from the various grandmothers, that I decided to continue the project throughout this year.

I finally wrangled* Grandma Ollie J's actual recipe box away from Grandmary (see the yellow one there), and thought I had my hands on hers, but alas no. Now I'm trying to persuade Grandmary to participate in the blog with a monthly installment, from her new Utah kitchen, and we'll see how that goes.

GrumpaMax's branch of the family tree will finally be making more of an appearance, thanks to Aunt Cora and Grandma Roa S's sisters.

Since I'm just back from vacation, and my cupboards are bare, I was happy to find this recipe in Ollie J's box for a helpful household tip. This is not her handwriting, so someone she knew copied it out for her, once upon a time.

Don't Sweat Over Stinky Shoes - Formula

Dry mix one tablespoon powdered alum with 1/4 cup Boric Acid, and 1/3 cup talc powder. (These 3 items can be found at drug stores.) To use, sprinkle on feet, especially between toes, and in shoes. Store in glass or plastic container. I put mine in a glass shaker with plastic top with holes that onion salt or something had come in.

Grandmary's Clarifications:
I am pretty sure that the handwriting on the card from Mama's box is Aunt Betty's. She did have a beautiful and distinctive handwriting. Aunt Shirley's looks something like it. They must have had the same penmanship teacher at Nahunta School.

*** yeah, yeah, yeah. Grandmary wants it back and keeps reminding me of that fact. I say, when I see a post or six from her, she might get the little yellow box back.
