PROGRAMMING NOTE from the Author and Archivist

So obviously I just stopped blogging on this platform. I'll get back to it eventually. Or not. I'm taking a break from all social media. It seemed necessary for my mental health.

The last few years have been busy and … challenging:

- 2015 Happened.
- 2016 Let's call it The Lost Year. (Obviously words failed me.)
- 2017 about broke me. Literally. Mentally.
- 2018 was ridiculous, proving 2017 was just a warm up. (Good thing I was already broken so it couldn't hurt as much.#2018TrashCanFire I thought things were going okay, but maybe not?)

- 2019 was such a blur. I know there were highlights, but then stuff happened and carried into the next year...

- And then in March#2020 really took a turn. Who can even categorize 2020? Do we dare?

I kinda want a do-over of some of the last few years. But life doesn’t work that way.

So for now, I'm hunkering down. Regrouping. Trying to stay safe and sort some stuff out.

Stay safe everyone. Stay well.

Auntie Nettie's Attic Merchandise 2013 - March

Wait, what! ... It's April? What happened to March?

March apparently marched to it's own rhythm and marched right on by.

What did I do? Let's see, (she says, while flipping though her planner). There seem to be notes about:

~ Housekeeping;
~ Working late;
~ Lots of working lunches with colleagues. It's how I make sure I have face time with people, get away from my desk, and actually do some brainstorming and gossip with them.;
~ Television catchup;
~ Crazy weather (but not really for March). I would actually appreciate the weather letting me "work from home" more often, please Mother Nature;
~ An unfortunate weekend of plumbing issues. I am NOT going to get into that future, but, it, um, wasn't fun.;
~ Baking--lots of cathartic baking for half the month, and then, not so much;
~ The inhalation of too WAY much Diet Coke and junk food;
~ Work projects up the wazoo. (Read above as I am a stress eater.);
~ The annual tax appointments. (YAY for refunds! Now maybe I can make my blog books for the last two years!);
~ Lunch with some of the chicks from the Caramoor Crew. I miss most of those guys.;
~ Attendance at a vocal arts recitals featuring my favorite work-study student in the history of my time at the Big J. (And I don't particularly LIKE opera, and I'm willingly listening to an opera singer sing in different languages. WE LOVE YOU LINDSEY!) - and;
~ Fun times with Christine at the:
- Christmas Tree Shop in Danbury, CT,
- Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden
- Stew Leonard's,
- with my Wreck it Journal, and
- with her Flat Kaden and my Shushing Librarian. S.L. was exhausted by all the fun and had to rest at this conservatory bench and get her energy back.

I was out more than I was in ... and the crafting project I managed to finish was time consuming. Here's the one project for the entire month of March. I can't say that April is on track to be much more productive. This pattern takes a while, especially to do a crib-sized blanket.

ANA 2013-12: Light blue Diamond-patterned crib cover
(1 14 oz. skein Loops & Threads Snuggly Wuggly #03300, Baby Denim, acrylic)
  Still outstanding? You know it.

UFO/Public Enemy Number 1
Multi-colored, multi-fibered bane of my existence, started back in 2010.
I need a long couple of weeks, so I CAN FINISH THAT STUPID AFGHAN and reopen the shop. I need to take pictures and write text and get all of these things up on etsy.com, do some marketing, and start moving them on out of the Attic.
In the meantime, if you see anything from past entries that interest you, please let me know and I'll send you dimensions and pricing.

Auntie Nettie's Attic Merchandise 2011 - July

After a few months of very little crafting output and much in the way of social butterfly-ness, I decided to buckle down and concentrate on working my way through the yarn stash. This dedication to craftiness also coincided nicely with some disgusting July heatwaves, where the thought of leaving the house was absolutely untenable. (I'm sorry, when the thermometer says 106 and the index with the humidity pushes it up past 110-115, I am NOT going outside!)

While working on the five (5) large projects below, I also:

~ celebrated the four-day July Fourth holiday at home - minus the crowds and aggravation;
~ had DVD/movie marathons:
- including whole seasons of Drop Dead Diva,
- the first six Harry Potter movies in preparation for maybe finally watching the first half of the final movie and then going to the final, final Harry Potter movie,
- and Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea (*sigh* Gilbert *sigh*);
~ had very nice catch-up lunch at Bar Boulud and dinner at Alouette with visiting college friends;
~ wrote letters to my aunts, some of my great-aunts, and my honorary aunts in celebration of Auntie's Day;
~ and generally was a homebody dealing with paperwork, inventory, correspondence, and cleaning.

I also think I gave myself carpal tunnel. I know I definitely wore the color off of one of my aluminum hooks.

I made five large Diamond Crib Covers this month, working through 15 skeins of Bernat Baby Coordinates yarn. Their approximate dimensions are 45x34, they'll vary slightly in length:

ANA 2011-28: Baby Pink Diamond Crib Cover
(as of Oct. 2011, no longer available)
ANA 2011-29: Blue Bon Bon Diamond Crib Cover
(as of 08/11, no longer available)
ANA 2011-30: Lemon Custard Diamond Crib Cover
ANA 2011-31: Iced Mint Diamond Crib Cover
(best seen below)
(as of 04/2012, no longer available)

ANA 2011-32: Natural Diamond Crib Cover
(as of 05/2012, no longer available)

Five! Ouch. Time to move on to smaller objects.
And maybe to finish up some of the works "in-the-works," perhaps?

Still in progress:
2010: Multi-fiber chevron blanket2011: Potential Mobile of Hearst (created as part of ANA 2011-08 group)
Fancy Blue Scarf
Casual Rimmed Cap

Auntie Nettie's Attic Merchandise 2011 - June

Another month, another small amount of crafting output. I couldn't figure out why there wasn't a lot to show for it, but then I remembered that I've been out and about and on the town.

You've seen the posts about the CT weekend, but I've also been out:

~exploring New York and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine with the Ironic Mother and her adorable daughter, Ms E.D. (posts to come);
~ there was the Big J Gala evening of The Tempest, with the highlight of one of my favorite Shakespearean actors, Sir Derek Jacobi;
~ farewell parties for former Big J colleagues;
~ long lunches at Carmines with former library colleagues, followed by wandering down NYC sidewalks;
~ trips in the rain to the New York Botanical Gardens (posts ongoing);
~a day exploring the Craft Show at Lincoln Center with a colleague and a visit to the Branch of the Folk Art Museum (posts to come);
~attending a reading at the 92nd Street Y by the excellent awesome irreverent author, Neil Gaiman (which rocked);
~ a day at The Metropolitan Museum of Art with former Caramoor pal, Michelle (posts to come);
and
~a weekend up at Caramoor helping with preparations for the Opening Night Gala, which I also attended (posts to come!).

No WONDER I didn't get more done. I did manage to finish the following:

ANA 2011-26: Small Chenille Polar Bear
(no photo, but much like ANA 2011-25, with the same materials)

ANA 2011-27: Roly Poly Panda Bear
(no photo, but much like ANA 2010-151)

Still in progress:
2010: Multi-fiber chevron blanket
2011: Potential Mobile of Hearts (created as part of ANA 2011-08 group),
Fancy Blue Scarf
~
Blue Diamond Crib Cover
Pink Diamond Crib Cover

As ever, if you see anything you'd like, just contact me for sizes, availability, and costs.

Maybe I need to spend a long weekend just hanging out in the attic and crafting to finish up all these projects?

Auntie Nettie's Merchandise 2009 - Part 3

I finally had a chance to do some organization of the craft studio this weekend and to document the crafting that's gone on since this summer. It also made me realize that I may need to find new projects or crafts, as I count over 25 scarfs in just the studio alone -- with the knowledge that at least eight more stashed at the office. Me thinks that the next craft bash will be allllllllll about the scarves ONLY!
