Cape Cod Girls Weekend 2011 - Brewster Country Store

I think I love literally everything about the Brewster Country Store, from the sign in the parking lot that says "Don't even think of parking here" to all the little hidden treasures displayed in plain sight. Each floor is chock full of discoveries and treasures from current times to days gone by. I could have taken so many more pictures than the ones you'll see here and in a special upcoming report from The Shushing Librarian.

It is whispered amongst the lettered and learned set that the way to magic portals are never obvious. The paths are often winding and never found on purpose. Once discovered, the true entrances are often disguised. You must seek beyond the obvious, gaze beyond the wrapping, and glance "behind" to find your way. A close reexamining may show that a blocked path is not as it appears. Venture forth to find the endless beauties and treasures that can be found within.

The Calla Lilies are in Bloom Again

The answer to yesterday's paraphrase is:

"The calla lilies are in bloom again.
Such a strange flower, suitable to an occasion.
I carried them on my wedding day, and now I place them here in memory of something that has died. "

These lines are from the play "within the play," Enchanted April, in the play Stage Door, which in turn became a 1937 RKO feature starring the late great Kate, Katharine Hepburn. This clip is from the end of the movie, when Katharine Hepburn's character has an amazingly heartfelt performance that shocks most who know her.

The film also featured Ginger Rogers, a very young Lucille Ball (not as Lucy as we came to know her), Eve Arden, Ann Miller and some of the other great character and featured actors working in Hollywood.

I love old black and white films. They just don't make 'em like they used to.
