PROGRAMMING NOTE from the Author and Archivist

So obviously I just stopped blogging on this platform. I'll get back to it eventually. Or not. I'm taking a break from all social media. It seemed necessary for my mental health.

The last few years have been busy and … challenging:

- 2015 Happened.
- 2016 Let's call it The Lost Year. (Obviously words failed me.)
- 2017 about broke me. Literally. Mentally.
- 2018 was ridiculous, proving 2017 was just a warm up. (Good thing I was already broken so it couldn't hurt as much.#2018TrashCanFire I thought things were going okay, but maybe not?)

- 2019 was such a blur. I know there were highlights, but then stuff happened and carried into the next year...

- And then in March#2020 really took a turn. Who can even categorize 2020? Do we dare?

I kinda want a do-over of some of the last few years. But life doesn’t work that way.

So for now, I'm hunkering down. Regrouping. Trying to stay safe and sort some stuff out.

Stay safe everyone. Stay well.

Auntie Nettie Reads A Lot 2014 - 2nd/3rd Quarter

Well, usually I read a lot. This has been an interesting, let's say, transitional regrouping year, wherein I have had to re-prioritize my energies.

Now that the Summer Festival is well over, the 3-day Fall Festival is over, and the calm before the fall schedule really picks up, I have been enjoying the library again and reading on the commute. I'm reading a bunch of what would be considered "summer beach reads." No prize-winners or "best ofs X lists" for now. Just fun reads. At the beginning of the summer I had huge stacks of books that I just kept renewing because I couldn't get to, or into, them. It was, as the librarian and I both agreed as I shamefacedly returned them at the end of the allowable renewal cycles, a bit too ambitious. So ... this instead. A mix of fluff, chick-lit, some ARCS, some of my collections, and some books from friends.
c. 9/6/2014

I'll get to some of my serious series soon - once I reread the 500-800 page books leading up to the end of the 3-7 book series (maybe the holidays?).

The usual caveat applies: If you are just finding the blog, please note that this list was maintained mainly so that I could remember what I've (or NOT) read this year. Auntie Nettie Reads A Lot 2014 - 1st Quarter

The first quarter of 2014 has been an interesting one. To recap (again): First there was the return from the epic holiday journey, the projects from heck at the Big J, 7 day a week schedules of about 60-80 hours, informing the Big J that I was leaving, leaving (FREEDOM!), starting the new job at the "little c", dealing with the learning curve, dealing with the weather, traveling AGAIN, the weather, the commute, and OH YEAH, trying to deal with the rest of my "stuff."

Appropriately titled: UNFINISHED BOOKS
Apparently, I did try to use the other side of my brain and read, but only occasionally. Not nearly enough.

You know the other sad thing from this period?

And I am appalled to even type it?

I haven't been to a library - to check out books - since January.

JANUARY!

HOW? What? Sputter!

Read the above. Compute it.

Know that I have a backlog of titles on my bureau, shelves, and e-reader.

And not enough time - obviously - to even blog in a timely fashion.

The usual caveat applies: If you are just finding the blog, please note that this list was maintained mainly so that I could remember what I've (NOT) read this year. The record does not fully represent me or all of my interests, so don't judge my reading habits. My interests change quite frequently. Also, as a general rule, I don't do book recommendations or link to major retailers or publishers. Except for the ARCs listed below [thanks major publishers!], most of these books came from MY library or a public library.

Go forth and READ!

January through March 2014 [The lack of titles here saddens me.]
True Love (A Nantucket Brides book) by Jude Deveraux
Big Girl Panties: A Novel by Stephanie Evanovich
The Midnight Witch by Paula Brackston (ARC)
Bellman & Black: A Ghost Story by Diane Setterfield (ARC)
some e-books I don't recall
The Housemaid's Daughter: A Novel by Barbara Mutch (ARC)
After I'm Gone: A Novel by Laura Lippman (ARC)
Longbourn: A Novel by Jo Baker (mine)
Otherhood: Modern Women Finding A New Kind Of Happiness by Melanie Notkin (mine)

Auntie Nettie Reads A Lot 2013 - 4th Quarter

Winter 2014 Snow Days = More reading? Maybe.
I don't think it needs to be said AGAIN that the last quarter of 2013 was a bit busy. There just weren't enough hours in the day to work 12-14 hours a day, commute, craft, or read a good book.

Though, apparently, I did try,  occasionally. But not enough.

The usual caveat applies: If you are just finding the blog, please note that this list was maintained mainly so that I could remember what I've read this year.

Go forth, use your library card and READ!

Auntie Nettie Reads A LOT 2013 - 3rd Quarter

via the Twitters and TOTALLY sarcastically
Well, I usually read a lot MORE  (see the earlier lists), but this year has also been "read"iculous. This quarter I made an effort to stop staring at my computer at home after work, or at the device on the train after work. My to-read list and request lists are still PAGES long despite this effort. I'm hoping a road trip with my mother to the Cape will give me a chance to work my way through a pile of ARCs and unread new books.

The usual caveat applies: If you are just finding the blog, please note that this list was maintained mainly so that I could remember what I've read this year. The record does not fully represent me or all of my interests, so don't judge my reading habits. My interests change quite frequently. Also, as a general rule, I don't do book recommendations or link to major retailers or publishers (UNLESS IT'S MAH FREEENNDZZZ). Except for the ARCs listed below [thanks major publishers!], most of these books came from MY library or a public library.

Auntie Nettie Reads A LOT 2012 - 4th Quarter

Well, I usually read a lot MORE  (see the earlier lists from this year and back), but this year has been "read"iculous in that I've been too busy to read, but mostly, because I have an iTouch now and I use the commutes on the train to peruse the online newspapers and catch up on personal e-mail/twitter feeds versus starting/finishing books. (And, NO! I do not want a Kindle or its equivalent, or to download books to my iTouch. I like to hold BOOKS when I read, and I stare at enough screens as it is, thank you very much. )

HOWEVER, I still did manage to work my way through my back-log of ARCS, which I have passed on to other readers, and to work my way through some tomes. In some cases, I just forgot to write things down because I have been trying to do too much.

The usual caveat applies: If you are just finding the blog, please note that this list was maintained mainly so that I could remember what I've read this year. The record does not fully represent me or all of my interests, so don't judge my reading habits. My interests change quite frequently. Auntie Nettie Reads A LOT 2011 - 3rd Quarter

If you are just finding the blog, please note that this list was maintained mainly so that I could remember what I've read this year.

If I really, really, really like a book or an ARC, then maybe I'll mention it, pass it along, and make a hoopla.

Go forth, use your library card and READ!
